“I’m the second of 5 children. I was raised by an amazing stay at home mom and a Miner for a father. I am originally from the Free state but moved to Carletonville at a young age.
When I was introduced to Star Schools, I was worried that it would add to the already increasing stresses of school. Boy was I wrong! The high value learning at Star Schools made my schoolwork seem simpler. Further, getting to interact with other scholars from other schools and taking trips with them made my education journey fun.
I am now a qualified doctor, with a MBChB from Wits University. I currently work with ‘at risk teens’ with substance use disorders. Eventually, I would like to have a rehab facility targeted specifically for teenagers. I also would like to be a successful anaesthesiologist.
Being from a poor background it’s always hard to find your place in the world just because you assume you don’t fit in. However, through hard work and education, I have gained confidence in myself. My siblings now have someone to look up to. I can finally also help my family financially. In the near future, I would like to study further and specialise in the medical field. I would also welcome any opportunity to travel.
I would like to thank my dad for always pushing me further than I thought I could go.
I would also like to thank Star Schools and AGA for their contribution to many success stories that will forever be celebrated.”
