Our History

On the tenth anniversary of the 1976 youth protest which led to political unrest in the country, Star Schools’ Matric Rewrite Programme was born. The idea was then conceived to assist black learners who were disadvantaged because of the examination boycott of that year.

Initially, 950 learners registered to receive weekly tuition in the subjects for which they registered at the Witwatersrand University Campus. Since then, Star Schools, has provided the opportunity to over 620 000 students who successfully completed their matric rewrite and have progressed into Higher Education.
