Matric Rewrite programme shaped my future, says alumnus

“Star Schools has an incredible programme and amazing teachers. My marks improved tremendously and I was able to follow my dreams,” declares Tenhlanhla Masuku, a 2012 graduate of the Star Schools Matric Rewrite Programme.

“I didn’t do well in matric, especially in mathematics and physical sciences,” she relates. “While registering for these subjects at Star Schools I decided to include life sciences as well to improve my Admission Point Score.”

Tenhlanhla has fond memories of her educators. “They were the best ever,” she recalls and her final exam results bear testimony to the quality of tuition she received.

“My maths improved from 45% to 61%, physical sciences from 48% to 63% and life sciences from 54% to 76%.”

This meant Tenhlanhla could apply to a tertiary institution and she decided to study accounting sciences at the University of Pretoria. After graduating in 2016 she went on to complete her post graduate diploma in accounting with Monash South Africa.

Tenhlanhla is currently preparing for her chartered accountant board exam which she intends to write later this year. “I know I am not there yet, but Star Schools has been a huge part of my journey,” she says.

To learners who have registered for Star Schools’ Matric Rewrite Programme Tenhlanhla has these words of encouragement: “Don’t lose heart, give this year your very best and be grateful you have been given a second chance. I am living proof that it is possible to achieve dreams other people (including yourself) believed you would never achieve.”
